Yayoi Kusama: The First Cloud Streaming Art Exhibition
Conceived and launched by Mucciaccia Gallery and developed by WideVR, this exhibition was the first in history to bring Yayoi Kusama's work to audiences worldwide through 3D cloud streaming. It showcased artworks spanning from 1950 to 2007, including three monumental sculptures originally exhibited at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo during the iconic Kusamatrix exhibition - a show visited by over one million people. Viewers could navigate the virtual gallery on any device, exploring each work with the same visual fidelity as a high-end game rendered on a supercomputer.
The technology behind the experience set it apart from every virtual exhibition that came before. Standard WebGL-based virtual galleries are limited to a few tens of megabytes, which forces heavy quality compromises. Cloud streaming eliminates this constraint entirely: a high-fidelity HDRP application runs on a remote supercomputer and is streamed directly to the viewer's device - like Netflix, but for real-time 3D. The result is exhibition-quality rendering accessible from a smartphone, a laptop, or a tablet, anywhere in the world, with zero installation required.
Featured in Artribune and recognized as a milestone in digital art, the Yayoi Kusama cloud streaming exhibition demonstrated how technology can remove every physical barrier between world-class art and its audience. For WideVR, it was proof that the future of virtual exhibitions is not a compromise - it is an upgrade.
